Dave enjoyed telling a joke but he wasn't interested in a short trip to a punchline. A Dave joke was an odyssey to an earned conclusion. He had passing favourites that grew in length and depth with each telling and one of those was "the incredible pretzel hold". At a full table at the Nugget in Summerland Dave launched into a full blown version of the joke. Being a busy place Dave had to resort to a booming voice level that had the attention of our table. As he rolled along the joke path I noticed a lot of other tables were wondering where this tale was headed and had gone quiet to catch the story. Burgers cooled, beers went flat, children escaped and eyes began glazing. As the sun settled lower Dave slapped that punchline down to a big laugh in appreciation and a sigh of relief as the numbed crowd filed out the door. Another Dave epic concluded.
