Dave Baxter

Dueling iPods

By John and Carolyn Phreaner

We feel so lucky to have known Dave and Janice for nearly four decades. Over the years we shared so many fond memories whether it involved golf, boating, skiing or raising our families. Dave and Janice were so patient to put up with my (John's) lack of boating skills even letting me drive their big boats, but only if the auto pilot was doing the work. On our trip to the BVI's I graduated to the rank of "Dingy Captain". All of our adventures with the Baxter's at some point involved late night music and maybe a drink or two. After reading Kevin's story about the broken margarita jug I can see why Dave never drank tequila. We passed around our iPods (yes we're that old) challenging each other to come up with the best song in many different categories (best covers, Father-Daughter dance music, best female singers, favorite blues songs, etc) while Janice and Carolyn danced. We did this in some very special locations - on their boats in the harbor in SB, British Columbia, BVI's and in our homes in Eden. Dave always found such joy finding the right song for each theme. Janice asked us to put together a playlist for the Memorial which brought back so many memories as we scrolled through songs. There are certain songs that will always make us think of Dave.
