Dave Baxter
Smokin chow. Jan and I cooking together
By Christine Dahl
So when I first met the Baxter‘s, Jan and I loved to cook together and we did a pretty good job of it. Dave, the first time we made a meal, exclaimed smokin chow!! He used that phrase from then on and Jan made me a platter for Christmas that said smokin chow. It’s beautiful and I still have it.
1994. The next story is about sailing with Dave when I was dating my husband. We went out on their sailboat in Santa Barbara and while we are coming in to dock, Dave was under sail and that’s unusual to come in under sail. He got us into the slip and stopped dead right in the slip and Jan jumped off the boat and tied it up. That is seaman ship!! My husband's jaw dropped. He just couldn’t believe anyone could do that. I always said if I was lost at sea, I would hope to be with Moondoggy, but, that’s just silly because you wouldn’t be lost at see with the dog. It just wouldn’t happen.
