Dave Baxter

Winter Wonderland Adventure

By Peter Snowden

Very early in 2018 I got a call from Captain Davey asking if I wanted to join him on a short boat delivery trip. Sure I said. Where are we going? “Well, I need to move the Kady-Krogen from Victoria BC around the corner to Sidney BC.” Linda and I had been boating with the Baxters in the Pacific NW before, and we loved that area in the summertime. I said, “I’m in.” Davey said it would definitely be colder but there was a good weather break next week. We flew to SeaTac, rented a car, took the Bainbridge Island Ferry and drove north to Port Angeles, spent the night. Davey knew the best restaurant in town and it did not disappoint. The next morning we took the first ferry to Victoria. As we got close it became clear that we had just missed a lot of snow. But the sun was breaking through and we had to shuffle through the snow on the dock to get to the boat. The wind was down, the water was calm, and as you can see from the photos, the views were out of this world. This little trip with Captain Davey was my all time favorite short trip on the water. It made me feel incredibly lucky to be a friend of Captain Davey. I will miss you, my Captain.
